Trinity Rock and Pop Workshop

On Wednesday March 14th Years 5 and 6 travelled to OPEN in Norwich to take part in a Rock and Pop workshop, organised by Trinity College in London.

Because we had had an early start we arrived in plenty of time and were delighted to be given front row seats! Whilst all the other schools were assembling we were able to enjoy listening to the band from Trinity College, who performed a wide variety of songs. It was a great experience for all pupils to be able to watch a live band performing!

After a warm-up, involving clapping and singing games that really made us listen and think, the workshops started. Most of our children took part in the vocal workshop but Niamh in Y6 has piano lessons, so she went off to the keyboard workshop and Dominic plays the guitar, so he took part in that separate workshop. Kadence and Meisha went to the drumming workshop together.

During the vocal workshop the lead singer from the band taught everyone to sing some backing vocals for ‘Let it be’ as well as the solo riff. She invited a number of children up on to the stage to experience singing through a microphone in front of a large audience in a proper performance venue…lots of our children were really keen to take part and we were so proud of those who were selected, it was a daunting experience but they all gave a really impressive performance!

The morning ended with another set from the band, including ‘Johnny be good’ as the finale. Our children, led by Maddy, could not resist the temptation to get up and dance…it was a fabulous way to finish the session!!

Everyone, including Mrs Reddey and Miss Leftley, thoroughly enjoyed the workshop, which was hosted by Norfolk Music Hub. They are all keen to have microphones for our future school productions now!
