Woodwind visit

Years 3 and 4, plus most of Year 2, enjoyed a visit from Adrian Cosker last Thursday. Adrian is a woodwind specialist and he brought a selection of his instruments for the children to handle and listen to, including the flute, piccolo, clarinet, alto saxophone and the grandfather of the saxophone family, the baritone saxophone! The children were fascinated by the size of the largest saxophone! They really loved the fact that they were encouraged to hold and investigate Adrian’s old flutes and clarinets…what a fabulous opportunity to feel a real instrument and begin to understand about the fingering systems. Adrian also showed the children a selection of reeds and explained how they are made and how they vibrate to produce sound.

We are very grateful to Peter Barker and Classic Music Rocks for facilitating the visit.
