Inspirational violinist visits Sandringham and West Newton
On March 29th we were so pleased to welcome the violinist Joo Yeon Sir to our school to play for us. Originally from Korea, Joo Yeon is based in London, but performs as a soloist both in London as well as with orchestras around the world.
Joo Yeon spent an hour with us, during which time she played excerpts from a wide range of music as well as telling us about her experiences in life and answering questions from both the children and staff too. We were all keen to find out how much practice you need to do in order to be as good as Joo Yeon. She said that she practices for at least six hours every day, and sometimes for longer! We also learned that when Joo Yeon travels abroad by air she has to buy two tickets, one for herself and one for her violin..it is so valuable that it has to sit next to her on the plane instead of going into the hold with the other luggage!
We were captivated by Joo Yeon’s beautiful playing and I’m sure that she will have inspired our growing number of string players to continue to practice hard. We really hope that Joo Yeon will be able to visit us again.
