KS2 visit Snettisham Church for a morning of beautiful music

This morning Years 3, 4 and 5 were lucky enough to travel to the wonderful church at Snettisham to listen to a short concert by the violinist, Joo Yeon Sir and pianist Irina Andrievsky. Joo Yeon has visited us at school on several occasions and we are always completely absorbed by her beautiful playing, so it was an added bonus for us to hear Joo Yeon play with her friend Irina too.

Joo Yeon played a little of the music that we’ve heard her perform before (for example, ‘The Lark Ascending’ by the famous English composer Ralph Vaughan Williams) but of course this time she was accompanied by the piano and the acoustics are very different in the church. After each piece Joo Yeon asked different children for their thoughts about the music and talked about the different techniques she used to play her violin too. The music ranged from the serene and peaceful ‘Lark Ascending’ to a wonderful arrangement of music from Gershwin’s ‘Porgy and Bess’, which was really energetic and jazzy in places and had the children moving in the pews!

Joo Yeon has established a real rapport with our school and it was lovely to see our children’s obvious delight at meeting her once again.

The church was packed this morningĀ  with children from other local schools as well as people connected to the church. We would like to thank Classical Music Rocks for facilitating our visit and we look forward to the next time Joo Yeon is able to visit us again at Sandringham and West Newton.
