Sports for Schools
Last Thursday, June 21st, we were delighted to welcome GB Olympic swimmer Amy Smith to school. Amy and her colleague Joe Roebuck, himself a GB Olympic swimmer, lead a sponsored fitness circuit with all pupils. The energy levels were off the scale in the Village Hall and the music pumped out as the children participated in short bursts of different exercises. After all year groups had completed the circuit there was a mass exercise ‘finale’ including star jumps and lots of general jumping up and down!
Amy ended the visit by telling the children her personal story…about how she had got into swimming initially and how, if you have a goal and are prepared to work hard to achieve it, anything is possible. It was an incredibly motivating story. She finished by showing the children her Commonwealth and Olympic medals too, which impressed both children and adults!
All sponsor money raised will go towards purchasing new sports equipment for our school and will also help support GB athletes to compete for our country and inspire the next generation.
