Sports Day 2018
The fabulous weather continued as we all enjoyed Sports Day last Friday, July 13th. As is traditional at our school, parents and families were invited to join us for a picnic prior to the afternoon sports events, and we were delighted that a huge crowd of supporters joined us on the field. Mrs Patnell and Miss Leftley, as PE subject leads, had put together a fabulous programme of races and all pupils had been practising hard in their PE lessons over the last few weeks. As usual, the House Captains did a great job of arranging the teams for their respective houses, making sure that the teams were balanced and that everyone had a chance to participate fairly. A fabulous addition to the programme this year was the Space Hopper races!! It’s one thing to be able to bounce happily around the garden at home but quite another to take part in a race on one! It was lovely to see a lot of success in these races from the children who aren’t necessarily the fastest runners, and many parents commented afterwards that they loved the fact that it gave different children the chance to shine. I’m sure that Space Hoppers will become a regular and popular feature from now on! The parents even used them for their races and thoroughly enjoyed themselves in their relays!
Mrs Gardener presented the certificates after the races had ended and announced that the winning house this year was Balmoral. Finally Balmoral House were invited to do a celebratory lap of the field whilst everyone clapped and cheered, which they really enjoyed!
It was lovely to see everyone enjoying the afternoon and supporting and encouraging each other throughout the races, with most children demonstrating a great sense of team spirit. A huge thanks to everyone who played a part in ensuring that the event ran smoothly, but a special thanks to Mrs Patnell for her excellent commentary throughout the afternoon.
