The Omnes events give children a taste of something different. The stones are little platforms on wheels, very similar to the stones in how they are pushed along and let go.  It is hoped they will go far enough to reach a target and score points, like the actual game you can try and knock your opponent’s stone out of the way. However no brushing is necessary! Both groups of children soon got used to it and had great fun getting them to the target. There were several schools from the western area so the children had the chance to rotate and play different people.

An enjoyable afternoon with some very positive thoughts on it.

Speed stacking !

SPEED STACKING @ Lynnsport  16/02/24

As part of the Omnes series of events, 8 children each from KS1 and KS2 attended along with 7 other schools.  It is a fun activity where children have a go at a sport which may not be taught in school. Speed Stacking has become a sport and there are competitions for it but this event was just for fun.

The children all had a great time, getting the hang of it and as their technique improved as did their speed in building and taking down their stacks. Their positive comments and smiles proved they’d enjoyed the afternoon.

CROSS COUNTRY FINALS

Cross Country Finals @ Lynnsport

Our 3 top 10 finalists took part in the West Norfolk Cross Country Finals on Thursday; this meant each of their races had between 40 and 50 participants. It was a sunny morning with a chilly head wind; thankfully the course was familiar, having completed it in the qualifying round. Once again it was top ten who would qualify for the County Finals which this year is going to be held at High Lodge in Thetford.

A few nerves appeared but once the racing started they were busy cheering each other on. Cooper was the first to race, yr3, and ran a very creditable 29^th, next up was Neve, yr6, who exceeded her expectations finishing strongly in 16^th and finally in the last race of the morning was Dylan who once again finished well to take 15^th position.

Although we had no qualifiers for the next round, the children ran their very best races and really could not have done more; they put themselves in the right places, listening to advice but very big gaps developed, stringing out the fields, which proved difficult to bridge.

We were all very proud of them.

Dodgeball afternoon

DODGEBALL

On Friday afternoon a group of children from KS1 and KS2 attended the first in the series of Omnes activities at Lynnsport.

Mrs Sizeland and Mrs Collison accompanied them. It was a non-competitive event, no scores were taken, it was just about learning and having fun, for some it was their first sporting activity outside of school which made them a little apprehensive but they soon got into their stride. They played against 7 other schools throughout the afternoon, improving with each game.

On returning to school, the vibes were definitely positive from both staff and pupils. These events are such a great way of learning something new but also gaining confidence within an environment away from school.

Cross Country at Lynnsport

Thursday 12^th October

Fortunately it was a dry, relative warm morning, ideal for running. We took 20 children from years 2 – 6 to compete over distances ranging from 600m to 1.6km. The year 2s were first off, boys and girls all raced together due to a lack of competitors but top 3 were awarded medals in each group. It was highly competitive between our children who despite never having run in such a large race proved they could finish well, many of them just outside the top 3. Brogan ran superbly to gin 3^rd place and a bronze medal.

The years 3 and 4 ran over a distance of 1km, in fields of 30-40 pupils, having run brilliantly were just outside the top 10, those within qualify for the next round. However Cooper finished in 10^th gaining him a place in the next round.

Years 5 and 6 had the task of going last and running the furthest, it was a tough task in large fields but they gave it their all with Neve in 7^th and Dylan G in 4^th.

As always the children tried their best and supported each other with many of them saying they had improved on last year’s positions which they were pleased about as I was too.

It was a great morning and well done to everyone. Super Effort!

Gardening club news

Our wonderful gardening club, have been busy as ever. Thank you so much to Mrs Windsor and Mrs Fenables, for all their helping making such a fabulous club.

Tri golf report

Town Cluster Trigolf Festival

This event was held at Lynnsport, on the all-weather hockey pitches, on Thursday 27^th April. There were 8 different schools taking part each with a KS1 and a KS2 team of 10 children. The 8 activities were all skill based, played for 8 minutes on a rotation basis.

Fortunately the weather held and it proved to be lots of fun with one comment being.

“I’m really enjoying this, I didn’t think it would be this much fun.”

A child from each group was awarded a medal for improvement, attitude, determination; I think they all deserved one but well done Chloe and Ayla

New Age Kurling

Lynnsport 24/03/23

This event is part of the Omnes Games and is geared to introducing sports that we wouldn’t necessarily do in school.

Two teams of 6, attended with 4 playing at a time, rotating after each game.  Although they played against other schools, Sandringham were one of 8, it was a fun activity rather than a competition.

It is based on ice curling, with the little stone on wheels, which is then pushed towards a target and it can also be knocked out by the opponent’s stone too.

The children all said they had enjoyed themselves and it was nice to have a go at something a little different.
