7 aside Football Mini League

On Thursday a group of 8, from years 5/6 travelled to Watlington for the first of 5 matches in this League, organised by Adam from Whitefriars. It is something that has been in the making for a few months now and it is a competition.  As Watlington are not in our Cluster we haven’t ever played them in any competitions so it was good to have that challenge. They were tough opposition and it was a case of getting to grips with that, and a considerably larger pitch than ours. In saying all that we did get into our stride, but unfortunately we let in 2 goals.  However, we rearranged and fought back to level pegging after half time, with minutes to go they scored their 3rd which was disappointing but we played to the end giving it everything.

It was a tough game but there were some super throw-ins by Harry, Max and Sam, great covering by Pixie and George, super movement from Charlie and great goalkeeping from Finlay and Lenny, in saying all that the determination and willingness to keep on going was immense. The comments from the children were very positive which is always lovely to hear.

Well done!

Thank you to Mr Winsor for refereeing at short notice, to Mrs Day for transporting and parents for supporting. Our next match is against Fairstead.

Lyng Hockey tournament

Lyng Hockey Tournament

This was the deferred event from the previous week which had been due to take part at Fakenham Junior School, Lyng is a small Primary school between Fakenham and Norwich. Unfortunately 2 schools, with 2 teams each, had dropped out leaving ourselves and Lyng with 2 teams each, 4 on the playing and 2 rotating after each game. Given that it was a Quicksticks event and we had played in one earlier in the year and the rules were the same etc. We were a little surprised when it was played on the playground that had quite a gradient, with plastic sticks and a light weight ball!

The children were rather bemused but thought, OK we are here now. It proved to be lots of fun, especially the warm up activity, Steady, Go, No which I have included in my PE lessons, they adapted well with both the equipment and gradient.

The tournament was divided into 2 rounds so that everyone played each other twice then each team had the advantage of the downhill slope. However the weather deteriorated and it rained which caused the ball to go in every direction, which caused some laughs and frustration.

The children were very sporting, mixing well, supporting everyone and enjoyed the experience immensely, finishing first and second which was pleased them.

Tri golf report

Town Cluster Trigolf Festival

This event was held at Lynnsport, on the all-weather hockey pitches, on Thursday 27^th April. There were 8 different schools taking part each with a KS1 and a KS2 team of 10 children. The 8 activities were all skill based, played for 8 minutes on a rotation basis.

Fortunately the weather held and it proved to be lots of fun with one comment being.

“I’m really enjoying this, I didn’t think it would be this much fun.”

A child from each group was awarded a medal for improvement, attitude, determination; I think they all deserved one but well done Chloe and Ayla

Netball news

SSP Bee Netball Development Festival

This is an annual event for teams of 6 from years 3/4 as an introduction to competitive Netball. It is played with 4 children, from each team, on a smaller court and all children shooting, attacking and defending.

It was held at Lynnsport and 15+ teams took part in the morning session.  The rules are similar but the emphasis is to get the children moving into spaces, looking around, passing accurately and having a shot on the net.

The schools were divided into 4 pools playing matches on a round robin basis which allowed them to watch other games.

The 2 groups took a little while getting used to playing against unfamiliar faces but warmed to the ideas and by the end of the session were producing some fine passes.

They all said, though a little nervous to begin with, they had enjoyed the experience

Town Cluster Netball Competition

This event had finally resumed, to the delight of the children, after a break of a couple of years and was held at Lynnsport in the Barn on Thursday 23^rd March. To say they were excited was an understatement!

The teams were drawn in 2 pools of 4, with winners of one pool playing the 2^nd placed team in the other pool in the semi-final, winners going on to the final.

Our pool consisted of St Germans, Whitefriars and St Marthas 2 which we played in that order games were played 8 minutes one way, rotating positions after each game with everyone having to miss a game.

The draw meant we had a little longer to wait as we were second on which only added to the excitement. They soon got into their stride and played some super shots winning 6-0, it was a 2 game wait before back to back wins of 1-0 and 5-0, leaving us to play Flitcham in the semi-final.  The other semi-final was ST Marthas 1 against St Marthas 2 with St Marthas 1 winning.

The final was superb with both teams playing their best, it really was end to end, our only nets were conceded here and St Marthas won 2-1. It was very close and could have gone either way; they never gave up, fought to the end and were sporting in defeat. Mrs Bowers who organised the event, commented on it being an extremely exciting final.

They were also congratulated by the umpires during and after their games on their play and skills which meant a lot.

The smiles said it all, it was a huge team effort and the support they gave each other was fantastic. For me to be able to pick a team was a difficult decision as the netball club is so well supported with such a lot of depth, the children have been so committed to practicing during their break which really paid off.

New Age Kurling

Lynnsport 24/03/23

This event is part of the Omnes Games and is geared to introducing sports that we wouldn’t necessarily do in school.

Two teams of 6, attended with 4 playing at a time, rotating after each game.  Although they played against other schools, Sandringham were one of 8, it was a fun activity rather than a competition.

It is based on ice curling, with the little stone on wheels, which is then pushed towards a target and it can also be knocked out by the opponent’s stone too.

The children all said they had enjoyed themselves and it was nice to have a go at something a little different.

Football fun

King’s Lynn Town Football Club

National League Tournament  February 2023

Twenty schools took part in this event at Lynnsport on Thursday which turned out to be a mild sunny day. It was a 6 a-side event with rolling subs over a 10 minute period. They were divided into 4 pools and played everyone in their group, giving them a placing to move on into the next round of games. Sandringham were up against Fairstead, Holly Meadows, Denver and Greshams, we played them in that order. We started tentatively, conceding a goal in the final seconds which disheartened them a little. We won, scoring 3 against Holly Meadows but conceded 2 against Denver. It was certainly a morning of ups and downs but their best performance came against Greshams who were unbeaten, we fought and won 1-0. It was a great game with other schools cheering them on.

We finished 3^rd in our pool, behind Greshams and Denver, we were set to play off for 9^th-12^th positions. Our time off consisted of lunch and some penalty taking with Fairstead which proved to be a lot of fun, then it was back to the games. Our first match was against St Martha’s, fortunately there were some green bibs to be had as we were both the same colours. It was a good match with both teams having chances but we managed to score and won 1-0. Now we played Nelson Academy who had just beaten South Wootton on penalties after extra time. Another exciting match with end to end football, it went to extra time and in the final minute we scored which secured 9^th position.

The final was between North Wootton our coach share school and Greshams, it was so exciting with North Wootton being supported by almost all the children, Greshams scored and went on to win. Our children clapped North Wootton onto the bus for such a great performance they in turn said well done to us for being the only team to win against the winners.

We had some very happy boys and girls.

Neither, Mrs Day or myself couldn’t possibly pick out a best player as they all worked very hard as a team to finish where they did, against some very tough competition but Lenny in goal made some super saves!

You are all superstars!

Skipping for Charity

I, Mrs Reddey, has decided to do the ‘100 skips in February’ to raise some money for Cancer Research UK: A charity close to my heart.

I thought what better way to try and get fit and raise a little money. I also thought who can really motivate me to get this done and there really was only one answer: MY CLASS.

So, far, they have joined in with me for 2 days so far. They time themselves 1 minute to see how many skips they can do, and they will try and beat it everytime they do it again.

I have managed to complete 50 in a minute so roughly taking me 2 minutes so far, but I am getting quicker.

Only 26 days more to do.
