TAG RUGBY FESTIVAL

During the Autumn Term we had been learning Tag Rugby in our PE lessons so it was great that we could send two teams to the Festival at the West Norfolk Rugby Club on Monday 28^th November, 18 teams took part in the afternoon session. It was cold but dry for an afternoon of fun and activity. Rather than be an A and B team, Mrs Bowers gave us names, we were Sandringham Tigers, with Miss Leftley and Sandringham Harlequins with Mrs Day. We played in pools and then the pools were rearranged for a few more matches. Unfortunately not all of these took place as we ran out of time much to the disgust of the children; they were all having a super time. As with other festivals junior coaches officiate and run the games, it is also a non-scoring event but as we know in a game such as rugby, games are there to be won and it didn’t stop the children saying how many they had won when they got back. After a tentative first match against Hilgay the “Harlequins” went on to win all their other matches, whereas the “Tigers” roared out winning all theirs. Both teams showed great Team spirit, discipline, respect for everyone on the pitch and sportsmanship throughout and it was very hard to choose a player from each team who had shown this the most but we did and Charlie Day and Lenny Hipkin received a medal.

It was a super afternoon!

Volleyball

VOLLEYBALL

As this is part of the Omnes Games, it is a non-competitive event where schools take part in a sport they wouldn’t necessarily play in school. The matches are run by the young coaches from local high schools and the college.

Sandringham was one of seven schools taking part; others were Ashwicken, Nelson Academy, South Wootton, Whitefriars, Holy Cross and West Lynn. They played each other in a round robin format.

Initially a few wondered what Volleyball was but soon got involved and gave it a go! Their responses on returning were very positive, saying they had had a good time, it was fun, they had learnt something new and had enjoyed it a lot which was good to hear.

Cluster Cross Country Finals

Lynnsport 24.11.22

It was a cold, sunny morning and with thankfully not the wind of the previous event.

There were around 50 in each race which understandably made everyone feel rather nervous but once the races started things calmed. After all, it was a step up with all the top 10 qualifiers from each cluster in attendance, so all the children were winners.

All 5 of our qualifiers competed and completed the courses, giving it their all, with the two Harriet’s finishing in the top 20 and the boys mid division. Thank you to the parents for your support.

The thing that sticks out for me personally was their care and support for each other, it was lovely to watch.

A wonderful day at the races !

Cross Country 10.11.22

On a bright November morning 18 children took part in the Town Cross Country at Lynnsport, over varying distances, 600m, 1km and 1.6km, according to their age group.  As always it was very well supported with large groups in each race. The course and format were similar to last year, they followed a bike that showed them the way and finished through 2 big flags where parents and schools lined the way.

The top ten from every race goes on to the next round against the top ten from the other clusters later this month, at Lynnsport over the same course.

The children though nervous enjoyed the event but commented on how different a race against other schools is compared to racing in school. They were all amazing and gave it their all as well supporting and encouraging others.

The first race (600m)for the younger ones is more for fun, they don’t go forward into the next round but our children did very well with Rex 4^th, Cooper 7^th with Ollie, Harrison and Zac finishing just outside the first ten which is promising for next year.

The years 3 and 4 raced over a distance of 1km, our 4 competitors, Isaac, Isaac, Harriet and Bridget racing well with Harriet and Isaac R finishing 9^th and 6^th respectively.

The 5 and 6 races were over the mile distance of 1.6km which definitely needed some determination, which Dylan, Lenny, Foster, Harry, Charlie, Sam, George, Finlay and Harriet had to complete.  Our qualifiers from this group were Dylan 2^nd, Harriet 4^th and Foster 10^th.

Dogeball fun

DODGEBALL

Friday afternoon saw the beginning of The Omnes Games, a six game taster of different sports throughout the year. Eight children from Yrs 1/2 and eight from KS2 took part in some friendly games against other schools. The idea being they learn a new game and have some fun too, in a non- competitive environment, I have to say it doesn’t always work out that way which is a pity. The College provided the coaching staff as part of their own practical training which gives everyone experience.

The feedback from the children and staff was very positive and they all said they had lots of fun and felt they improved as the sessions went on, the pictures certainly say that too.

Fakenham Football Tournament

On Tuesday 8 children from years 5/6 took part in a Tournament organised by Fakenham Junior School. They travelled by car and to say they were excited is a bit of an understatement, as football competitions are not something readily available in our cluster so it was all rather new.  Then they saw there was a large, shiny cup for the winners!

Despite the organisers trying very hard to get schools involved there were only 4 teams but the matches were exciting with everyone taking part in a very sporting way. They all played brilliantly and worked hard as a team on and off the pitch, covering, assisting and supporting each other throughout.  We finished 2nd overall, losing 1-0 to Lyng, the final kick of the match being a shot at their goal skimming the crossbar.

In the semi-finals 1st place Lyng played 4th place while Sandringham played 3rd place, with both of us winning it was a Lyng verses Sandringham Final. It was end to end action with some good saves made by both goalkeepers but they carried on working as a team and went on to win 2-0.

Everyone enjoyed the morning and although it was a competition, their drive to win did not overshadow their care and compassion for opposing players who took knocks and got hurt.

It did not go unnoticed by the other coaches and players.

Triumph at the Quiksticks Hockey!

New Season of School Sport 2022/23

Quicksticks Hockey at Lynnsport for years 3&4

This was our first sporting event of the school year, it comprised of a fun skills festival and a competition both were games against other schools. In the festival it was about learning the game and its skills without the pressure of score taking. Whilst the competition was more about using our skills to try and win matches, scores were taken and a semi-final and final took place.

The festival team had a great time and played many schools, working hard as a team.  Mrs Collison said they listened and worked brilliantly as a team.

The remaining 6 children took part in the competition where 8 teams were placed in 2 pools and played each other, 12 minute matches with 2 players substituting every 4 minutes, 4 on the pitch at a time. The winners playing the runners up, of the other pool as a semi-final, then the winners of those games playing each other in the final. We were pitted against Glebe House, Terrington St Clement, and St Germans. The final placings were extremely close but we won our first match against Glebe 3-1, drew 3-3 against St Germans and then drew again 0-0 against Terrrington. As Terrington and St Germans both lost a match it meant we had won with St Germans finishing in 2^nd place.  Our next match was against St Marthas, we came out fighting and played superbly winning by 4. The children had fought very hard and produced some great play which was commented on by several people. The final was against St Germans who had beaten Dersingham, could we go one better? I didn’t realise how long 4 minutes was when you are leading 3-2. It was a fantastic match and both teams deserved to win as they played their hearts out! They were so pleased, saying do we really get that trophy?

September 2022 | Useful Information for this half term

Welcome back everyone!

We have an exciting half term ahead to keep the children busy and save them from reminiscing about the summer holidays.

I have attached the Timetable, Newsletter and Half Termly overview for reference.

Don’t forget swimming kit for Wednesday afternoon and Forest School and PE will alternate on a Thursday afternoon –  PE Week 1/Forest School Week 2.

Tackling Tables will take place on Timestable Tuesday. We will be reissuing log-in details for Tackling Tables and Sumdog. If at any point you need these again, don’t hesitate to pop in and ask.

It is important to record all reading at home in the reading journals provided. Please aim for 3/4 times per week.
