Years 1 and 2

Years 1 and 2

Welcome to Year 1 and 2.

Teacher: Mrs Gibson

Teaching Assistants: Mrs Mountain, Mrs Sizeland  and Mrs Day

In Year 1 and 2 we follow a creative topic based curriculum to inspire learning. We follow the National Curriculum for English and Maths. Reading continues to be a big focus. We have a daily phonics lesson where children learn new sounds and practise their blending and segmenting skills.  We use the Little Wandle system for teaching phonics. The books the children read closely match their phonics knowledge. Children are expected to read for 10 minutes at home each night.

Homework is set each week and this usually consists of reading, spellings and maths. In class the children enjoy our weekly Tackling Tables test.

Each year the children take the lead roles in the school Nativity play which is part of the Christmas service at the church.

An outing is planned each term to support learning. In recent years we have visited Castle Rising, Sandringham Museum, Kings Lynn Museum, Gressenhall and Holkham at Christmas.

Dear All

It has been lovely getting to know all the children. They seem happy and settled already!

TRI-GOLF SUCCESS

Posted on April 3rd, 2019

TRI-GOLF

On Tuesday 2nd April, 10 Year 1 & 2 pupils attended a Tri-Golf tournament of cluster schools at Lynnsport.

At the event, pupils from 10 different schools had to complete eight different tri-golf activities. They had a five minute time for each activity and scores were awarded for different targets.

Scores were totaled up for all of the activities and the team with the highest score went through to the next round.

The talented Sandringham & West Newton drew second place in the Year 1 & 2 category, which was a fabulous achievement!

Well done to all involved.

Also, a special thank-you to Mrs Marson and Mrs Collison for taking the children and supporting them throughout the morning.

Tree Climbing in Forest School

Our last session this academic year saw the whole class climbing trees. We have had had great fun building dens, making forest cookies and playing games this term and we are all looking forward to more outdoor learning in September.

KS1 trip to Amazona Zoo.

Posted on July 22nd, 2018

Our trip to Amazona zoo was a real success. The weather was brilliant and allowed us to picnic outside, and play on the giant bouncy pillows in the afternoon. We saw many animals indigenous to the continent of South America, including caimans, toucans, capybaras and leafcutter ants.

KS1 Brazilian Assembly

Posted on July 22nd, 2018

Our KS1 assembly went superbly. The children put so much work into making it a fabulous display for their parents. The topic has covered many aspects of the curriculum, with a particular focus on Geography and Design and Technology. The children have looked at the human and physical features that Brazil has and then compared them with Scotland.

They have looked at the seven continents and identified Brazil within South America. They have learnt about the Amazon Rainforest; the animals that live there, the four layers of the forest and the threats to its ecology.

The Design and Technology came from our tie-dye T.shirts- which all turned out fantastically, the traditional Brazilian street food;pastels (minced beef parcels) and paja de queso (cheesy bread) and our amazing famous Brazilian people puppets that the children had designed and made through their homework and in class.

Fantastic sporty morning for KS1 at Active Kids Festival

Posted on February 19th, 2018

KS1 class has an amazing sporty morning at Lynnsport’s Active kids festival on Monday morning. They were taking part with pupils from Flitcham Primary Academy and were organised into 3 mixed groups for a rotation of activities, that kept them busy all morning. They enjoyed running, jumping and team games, but by far the most popular were the parachute games. A great time was had by all and the school received a pack of resources to use back in school, along with certificates for every child taking part.
