Years 1 and 2

Years 1 and 2

Welcome to Year 1 and 2.

Teacher: Mrs Gibson

Teaching Assistants: Mrs Mountain, Mrs Sizeland  and Mrs Day

In Year 1 and 2 we follow a creative topic based curriculum to inspire learning. We follow the National Curriculum for English and Maths. Reading continues to be a big focus. We have a daily phonics lesson where children learn new sounds and practise their blending and segmenting skills.  We use the Little Wandle system for teaching phonics. The books the children read closely match their phonics knowledge. Children are expected to read for 10 minutes at home each night.

Homework is set each week and this usually consists of reading, spellings and maths. In class the children enjoy our weekly Tackling Tables test.

Each year the children take the lead roles in the school Nativity play which is part of the Christmas service at the church.

An outing is planned each term to support learning. In recent years we have visited Castle Rising, Sandringham Museum, Kings Lynn Museum, Gressenhall and Holkham at Christmas.

Dear All

It has been lovely getting to know all the children. They seem happy and settled already!

Sports Annual Review

Posted on July 6th, 2020

Sports 2019/20

We all know it has been a very odd year and obviously it has affected school life greatly, none more so than in sports with several competitions being cancelled prior to school closing. However, we had managed to compete in several competitions in which we did very well and had had lots of fun.  Our first attempt at gymnastics with a year 1 / 2 team proved fruitful, hockey too, along with football, rugby and cross country. The children’s commitment and willingness to learn new things made it very difficult for me to pick teams at times, producing some brilliant performances and enormous smiles.  The netball team was in a good position in the league and we were all looking forward to those competitions along with many others we had entered. Unfortunately it was not to be which was disappointing but we did manage to get the Gold Award for sport based on the events we had taken part in, had entered for the whole year and what we had in place in school. I have to thank the School Sports Council of Oliver, Lilly, Clara, Caitlin, Henry and Elliot W, voted for by the class, who had to organise and run a lunchtime club, speed stacking, which turned out to be quite good fun! That was the difference between Gold and Silver.

Thank you all for your support this year.

Well done everyone!

First Place !

Posted on February 6th, 2020

Congratulations to our amazing gymnastics team. First place today. See Miss Lefltley’s full report below:-

Gymnastics at Eagles Gym

This afternoon, 04/02/2020, six children {it was very difficult choosing just six} from years1/2 competed in a floor and vault competition at Eagles Gym. Over the whole day 15 schools had taken part with each being judged on their minute to a minute and a half floor routine to music as well as each child performing a vault. The floor routine comprised of 4 compulsory elements and 6 others from 3 different sections, our choice of music was George Ezra’s Shotgun. The vault was onto, walk along and off a bench, using all the correct gymnastic techniques. The children showed no nerves and performed brilliantly, the best I think ever, their routine was complemented on, by several people there.

During the afternoon all the children also had the opportunity to try out all the equipment; parallel bars, beam, rings, uneven bars and a vault onto and off a mini trampoline. They also saw some of the gym’s own gymnasts perform. Following this the results were given out and we had come first which was a fabulous achievement, even beating the top score of the morning session. It was a superb experience and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.

Super Performance!

Elsa, Esme, Neve, Karlya, Foster and Lenny.

Running in the rain !

Posted on November 13th, 2019

Cross Country November 2019

@ West Norfolk Rugby Club

On Tuesday 20 boys and girls, from years 2-6, took part in this event alongside children from 17 other schools. On arriving it was dry though cold but once the intructions for the morning were out of the way the rain began and the wind got up. It proved to be rather unpleasant and conditions underfoot slippery but the children carried on racing, producing some good results, all finishing in the top 25 for their respective group. The races for year 2 were more for fun but places were given out and they all finished in the top 20 which was a brilliant result. For the other year groups, only the top 10 placed children go on, to the next round in January. Elliot finished 10th and goes forward but there were several children who finished very close in 11th, 12th and 13th places.

Despite the awful weather they said they had enjoyed taking part but were glad to get back in the warm after, I was too! Thank you to Mrs Day for coming along.

Well done!

Elliot, Lilly, Kaden, Henry, Elizabeth, Tabitha, Leyla, Sally-Louise, Cole, Dexter, Joshua, Harriet, Harry, Charlie, Max, Karlya, Neve, Lenny, George and Foster.
